8/12 Solar Eclipse In Leo

SOLAR ECLIPSE IN LEO

Wednesday, August 12 - 1:36 pm

Eclipses are some of the oldest predictive tools in astrology. In ancient Mesopotamia, astrologers watched eclipses closely because they were often associated with changes in kingship, leadership, and the direction of a nation. An eclipse was understood as an interruption of the established order, a moment when something that had been illuminated suddenly disappeared from view.

I think of a solar eclipse as the radio station of the Sun being temporarily blotted out by the Moon.

For a moment, the signal goes silent.

And when the Moon passes and the light returns, we discover that we cannot quite tune back into the frequency we were listening to before. Something else is broadcasting now.

This is why eclipse seasons can feel so definitive. The old relationship, job, identity, home, or story may suddenly become unavailable to us. It isn't necessarily that we have decided we don't want it anymore. Sometimes we simply cannot find our way back to it. That particular station no longer exists.

Eclipses expedite evolution.

They are moments when the universe seems to make corrections, sometimes faster than we would have chosen for ourselves. Our work is not necessarily to control what is happening, but to become humble enough to observe it. To listen. To watch what leaves, what arrives, and what begins rearranging itself around us.

There is a certain reverence required here.

Sometimes an eclipse delivers exactly what we have been asking for, and more. Sometimes reality changes in ways we are not yet ready to understand. Either way, the invitation is the same: respond to what is actually happening rather than trying to force life back into its previous shape.

An eclipse is a harvest of reality.

And a solar eclipse is essentially a New Moon intensified, like a hundred New Moons rolled into one. It begins a cycle, but the cycle it begins can reach much farther into our lives than we realize in the moment.

The 18-Year Return

There is another layer to eclipses that I find fascinating: they return in families.

This particular Solar Eclipse in Leo takes me directly back eighteen years, to 2008. That year, I made one of the biggest moves of my life. I moved to create a community house in Soho with 6 other wild ones. It had seven bedrooms, skylights, a rooftop, huge windows, and vast, strange, creative spaces. It was rough around the edges. The loft had been passed down through generations of artists, and when we arrived, we found artwork from the 1980s and 90s still tucked away in closets. It felt like inheriting a living creative history. We made a home there. We made community there. And in many ways, an entirely new chapter of my life began there.

Now, exactly eighteen years later, this eclipse has returned.

And once again, I find myself on the threshold of a major move and another communal living project. This time, a group of friends and I worked toward purchasing a seven-bedroom home and hospitality project together in Mexico City. I move in on September 1 with a few friends and others will stay with us seasonally. As I write this, I can feel reality adjusting the eclipse doors opening to let in new light.

The symbolism is almost too perfect.

Seven bedrooms then. Seven bedrooms now.

Community then. Community now.

A major move then. A move to another country now.

Different people, different city, different life. But somehow, the same eclipse story has found me again.

I was born just after a Leo eclipse cycle, so perhaps I have always been particularly sensitive to this rhythm. But these cycles belong to all of us. Eclipses travel in approximately eighteen-year patterns, which means we can look back to 2008 for clues about what is returning now.

Where were you living?

Who were you becoming?

What began around that time?

What changed your direction?

You don't need the same circumstances to repeat. Eclipse cycles don't necessarily recreate the event. They can reopen the theme at a different octave. What was begun then may be ready to evolve now.

The Heart Light

And this eclipse is in Leo.

Leo is ruled by the Sun, so a solar eclipse here brings us directly into the territory of the heart: our radiance, our creativity, our courage, our visibility, and the truth of what wants to emanate through us.

There is a light within each of us that cannot be manufactured.

You cannot strategize your way into it. You cannot perform your way into it. You cannot become brighter by becoming more like somebody else.

Leo asks us to locate the Sun within.

What is genuinely alive in you now?

What are you willing to create because you love it?

What happens when you stop negotiating with the brightness of your own heart?

With the Moon in Aquarius opposing the Sun in Leo, there is also a conversation between the individual and the collective, between the singular light we carry and the communities that can receive it. Perhaps the question isn't simply, Who am I becoming?

Perhaps it is also:

Where does the person I am becoming belong?

Eclipses have a way of answering these questions through events rather than explanations.

So watch what happens.

Watch what disappears. Watch what arrives. Watch the doors that suddenly open and the ones you can no longer walk through.

The frequency is changing.

We don't have to know exactly where it is taking us yet.

We only have to be willing to listen.

Whether it’s a personal reading, taking an astrology class, or spending time on a retreat with Rebecca Gordon, you will be forever transformed and see your life through a different lens. Rebecca is a gifted and highly engaging teacher who guides you through understanding astrology with grace and ease. That understanding in turn leads to greater compassion for yourself and others. Rebecca is also a wonderful connector and I’m grateful for such beautiful friendships and inspiring students I have met through studying with Rebecca Gordon over the years.
— JAMIE W - ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL FOR NYC BOARD OF EDUCATION
After having read Rebecca Gordon’s book, Your Body and the Stars, I knew it was important to go deeper into studying how the zodiac sign influences health. This class isn’t just for those interested in medical practice, it’s suitable for everyone who also want to be more attuned to their bodies. We were treated to fun and informative sessions on going through our natal charts and watching out for potential health issues, as well as identifying some alignments that could affect the health.
— Geolette E, Journalist and Magazine Editor
I thoroughly enjoyed the Astrology of Relationships class. Rebecca is a gifted astrologer with a creative and unique voice. She introduced me to new techniques and added layers to my understanding of synastry. Her distinctive take on the waltz between the sun and moon in relationships provided a fresh new perspective for my understanding of aspects in relationships. There is a Facebook group to connect with your fellow students. I love that all her classes are live and interactive.
— Celeste B, Astrologer
After studying astrology for over 20 years to then becoming professional the last few years, I am a great believer in continuing development. Through studying and learning from many teachers, I have followed Rebecca for the last two years.
Specialising In Medical Astrology I loved her Health and Wellness course, there was so much information which gave me a deeper understanding of how to bring in the ecosystem.
I would highly recommend this class even if you are not an Astrologer you will still benefit from this class.
— Debbie B- Professional Astrologer
I have taken two full courses and countless workshops and private sessions with Rebecca. She is undoubtedly a master of her craft and a true mentor for her students. I live in gratitude to her for the rich knowledge she has equipped me in understanding myself and in helping others learn about themselves through astrology.
— MORGAN R, MEDICAL RESEARCHER
I met Rebecca years ago at a workshop she was teaching. I was immediately drawn to the lightness and life that she brings to the ancient art of astrology - she makes it so accessible and fun, without sacrificing any of its depth and life-changing potential. It’s been such a joy to be in her astrology school. I’ve gained a much deeper understanding of myself, and seen how we are all “wired” really differently, based on studies of natal charts. This has helped me to be much more patient and understanding with my friends and family ;) And, the class really feels like a true spiritual community: supportive, intimate and inspiring. I will miss our weekly gatherings!
